About The Position

The Intermediate Care Unit Registered Nurse (IMC RN) provides advanced nursing care to adult patients requiring close monitoring and specialized interventions in a step-down environment between intensive care and medical-surgical levels of care. The nurse is responsible for managing patients with complex medical, surgical, trauma, and neurological conditions who require frequent monitoring and timely clinical interventions. This role requires strong critical care skills including cardiac monitoring, ventilator management, and medication titration. The IMC RN collaborates with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and safe transitions of care.

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) License (South Carolina or multistate license).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience
  • At least 1 completed travel assignment required.
  • Previous ICU or Intermediate Intensive Care Unit experience with patient ratios of 1:3 or higher acuity
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, ventilators, and medication titration
  • Minimum 1 year of EPIC electronic medical record experience

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care to individuals in the Intermediate Care / Surgical Step-Down Unit
  • Perform continuous cardiac telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and monitor patient conditions closely.
  • Administer medications and manage cardiac and vasoactive medication drips
  • Care for patients requiring ventilator support and advanced respiratory monitoring
  • Respond to clinical emergencies and participate in Rapid Response Team interventions
  • Manage patients transferred from Intensive Care Units (ICU) or admitted directly for higher-acuity monitoring.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, and rehabilitation services.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control protocols, patient safety policies, and hospital care standards.
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation within the electronic medical record system
