About The Position

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for the Dallas-Fort Worth region, which is the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States. The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a summer Intern to provide support with technical assistance on regional active transportation planning data to guide the development of walking and bicycling facilities in the region. The student in this position will assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to help develop insights and create maps, reports, and presentations for active transportation planning. This internship will provide valuable experience in planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Basic knowledge of GIS principles and the ESRI ArcGIS Pro platform
  • Good communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal and analytical skills, with ability to listen to instructions, coordinate with other team members, and present ideas
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to handle multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline driven environment without diminishing quality of work
  • Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program during employment
  • No work experience required

Responsibilities

  • Working with supervisor to analyze and summarize bicycle and pedestrian count data using Microsoft Excel
  • Researching and updating the regional Active Transportation Plan Inventory Database
  • Assisting with field visits to validate bicycle and pedestrian trail count equipment
  • Working with supervisor to create and edit maps, and process spatial and tabular data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Working with supervisor to compile and summarize studies and drafting reports for supervisor review
  • Drafting and preparing documents such as presentations, public outreach content, and education materials for supervisor review
