Intern, AI Agent Development

BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc.Novato, CA
8d$24 - $27Hybrid

About The Position

The BioMarin Summer Internship Program will enable students to gain valuable experience and knowledge of the processes and systems within BioMarin, while gaining an insight into the pharmaceutical/biotech industry. Over the course of 10 - 12 weeks our interns gain industry experience while working alongside our talented team on meaningful projects. The Systems and Implementation team is seeking a summer intern with a strong interest in AI, project management, and operational excellence, and a commitment to gaining substantive experience in building intelligent workflow solutions. The selected intern will support the development of an innovative AI‑powered Co‑Pilot Agent designed to streamline project scoping, stakeholder analysis, process mapping, risk identification, and continuous improvement efforts leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, and other operational excellence methodologies. This internship will involve hands‑on participation in the design, prototyping, and refinement of AI agent features that directly support project managers, process owners, and operational leaders. Responsibilities may include translating process improvement frameworks into structured AI logic, drafting workflow templates, evaluating agent performance, and contributing to process optimization initiatives. The intern will also collaborate closely with cross‑functional partners across Technical Operations, Quality, Research & Development, and Digital teams to gather requirements, validate use cases, and ensure alignment with broader organizational needs. Key activities may include assisting in the development of agent components using low‑code/no‑code AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot Studio; supporting the creation of project scoping resources such as stakeholder maps and risk logs; building process maps using tools like Visio, Miro, or Lucidchart; and identifying opportunities for automation or workflow enhancement. This role will also support integration efforts with productivity platforms including Teams, SharePoint, and Power Automate, and contribute to user documentation, onboarding resources, and training materials. Additionally, the internship offers the opportunity to gain insight into how AI and digital transformation are reshaping process excellence within the biopharmaceutical industry.
