About The Position

The BAS Engineering Intern supports the design and development of building automation control systems, assisting with drawings, documentation, material take-offs, and project coordination. This role works closely with engineers and project teams to learn BAS platforms, review mechanical plans, support programming preparation, and ensure designs meet technical standards while gaining hands-on industry experience.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Computer Engineering, HVAC, Automation, or a related technical field.
  • General knowledge or interest in building automation, controls, or energy management systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Visio).
  • Attention to detail and ability to follow engineering standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Problem-solving mindset with willingness to learn technical concepts.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license (if occasional site visits are needed).
  • Ability to occasionally lift or handle field equipment (if participating in potential jobsite activities).

Nice To Haves

  • Junior, senior, or graduate-level standing preferred.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, and building systems.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, or similar drafting/design tools (preferred).
  • Comfortable reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, specifications, and wiring diagrams (with training provided).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of BAS control system drawings, including control diagrams, network architecture, and electrical wiring diagrams.
  • Support the creation of sequences of operation, control schematics, and project documentation under supervision.
  • Perform take-offs and help prepare material lists, equipment schedules, and submittal packages.
  • Review mechanical plans and specifications to identify control system requirements.
  • Assist engineers in programming preparation tasks, such as database entry, point lists, and device mapping.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field technicians to ensure design accuracy.
  • Provide support with quality checks to verify compliance with Climatec standards and client specifications.
  • Participate in team meetings, jobsite visits, and coordination sessions as needed.
  • Learn and use common Building Automation Systems tools and platforms (Tridium Niagara, Alerton, Distech, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, and others used by Climatec).
