About The Position

The Community Safety Planning Coordinator will support the Director of Community Safety Planning in developing and implementing community-driven safety initiatives at ECD properties across the Mid-Atlantic region-primarily focused in the Baltimore and DC region. This position will assist with resident engagement activities, data collection and analysis, grant research and writing, event coordination, and stakeholder meeting facilitation. The intern will gain hands-on experience in community development, housing policy, and violence prevention strategies while contributing to meaningful work that enhances resident safety and quality of life. (20-25hrs/per week)

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in graduate coursework focused on Urban Planning, Public Policy, Criminal Justice, Social Work, Public Health, Community Development, or related field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Commitment to resident-centered approaches
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for site visits across the Mid-Atlantic region

Nice To Haves

  • Previous internship or volunteer experience in community organizing, nonprofit work, or affordable housing
  • Experience with data collection and analysis (qualitative and/or quantitative methods)
  • Grant writing experience or coursework
  • Familiarity with community violence intervention strategies or trauma-informed approaches
  • Knowledge of Baltimore and DC region communities
  • Experience facilitating meetings or coordinating events
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools and survey platforms

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate logistics for community events and resident engagement activities at Community Safety Pilot Sites in the DC and Baltimore area.
  • Conduct research on community safety best practices, funding opportunities, and violence intervention models.
  • Assist with grant application preparation including narrative writing, budget development, and supporting documentation.
  • Schedule and coordinate stakeholder meetings with community partners, local government agencies, and resident leaders.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, take detailed notes, and create summary documents for internal and external audiences.
  • Support the development of presentations, reports, and communication materials for community safety initiatives.
  • Attend community meetings and events at various property sites across the region.
  • Assist with social media content development and community outreach materials.
  • Support partnership development efforts by researching potential collaborators and preparing briefing materials.
  • Contribute to the creation of toolkits and resources for property management teams.
  • Assist with other special projects as assigned by the Director of Community Safety Planning.
