About The Position

Nighwing is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to support infrastructure and power system design projects. This role provides hands-on exposure to real-world engineering challenges related to electrical distribution, power generation, and critical infrastructure systems. The intern will work closely with experienced engineers and contribute to design, analysis, and documentation across multiple project phases.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited program (ABET accreditation preferred).
  • Completed at least two years of study in a relevant program.
  • Strong academic performance (a minimum GPA of 3.0 is often preferred).
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Self-motivated, eager to learn, and capable of taking direction and working effectively in a team environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, or electrical simulation software (e.g., SKM, ETAP) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the design and analysis of electrical power systems, including medium- and low-voltage distribution systems
  • Support preparation of electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, layouts, and schematics
  • Perform basic load calculations, short-circuit calculations, and voltage drop analyses
  • Assist with equipment selection (transformers, switchgear, panels, cables, protective devices)
  • Support development of technical specifications, reports, and engineering calculations
  • Review and organize construction documents and submittals
  • Assisting with the design, development, and testing of electrical systems and components.
  • Conducting basic engineering calculations, data analysis, and field surveys.
  • Preparing and updating technical documentation, reports, schematics, and design drawings using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Building and testing prototypes using common laboratory equipment like oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power supplies.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving minor operational problems in electrical systems in collaboration with other personnel.
  • Researching industry standards, safety regulations (e.g., National Electrical Code), and new technologies relevant to ongoing projects.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (e.g., mechanical engineers, project managers) and participating in team meetings.
  • Performing other duties and assisting with ad hoc projects as assigned by managers.
