About The Position

Since 1985, Digi International has been a pioneer in wireless communication, forging the future for connected devices and responding to the needs of the people and enterprises that use them. Before the Internet of Things was a thing, we built M2M and IoT devices, adapted to evolving network standards, and optimized data communications around the most advanced protocols and emerging technologies. From radio frequency modems to gateways, cellular routers, networking devices, embedded system-on-modules (SOM) and single-board computers (SBCs), Digi's solutions have continually grown to serve an extensive breadth of applications across the IoT landscape. Today, our IoT offerings include sensor-based solutions, a sophisticated platform for remotely monitoring device deployments of any size, anywhere, as well as professional design, implementation and certification teams to help you carry out your vision, no matter how large or small. We are seeking a highly motivated RF Engineering Intern to support the Wireless Design Services HW/RF team throughout the summer. The intern will work closely with senior RF engineers to design circuits, validate and test hardware, assist with simulation and antenna design projects, and contribute to internal tool development and automation initiatives. This role offers hands‑on exposure to LTE, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and LoRa radio technologies, along with practical experience in RF/HW product development.

Requirements

  • Pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Understanding of fundamental RF principles, including: Smith Chart interpretation Antenna design basics Filters, matching networks, and impedance concepts
  • Basic understanding of LTE, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, and LoRa radio technologies.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Clear communication skills and a willingness to learn in a fast‑paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or hands‑on experience in RF Engineering, wireless communication systems, circuit design, or antenna theory.
  • Experience writing Python scripts for data manipulation, automation, or engineering workflows.
  • Exposure to CAD tools (Altium, ADS, HFSS, CST, etc.) is a plus.
  • Exposure to antenna simulation tools (HFSS) is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support RF and hardware design activities, including component selection, schematic entry, and design documentation.
  • Assist in design verification testing (DVT) for new hardware designs.
  • Contribute to root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, and corrective‑action efforts for RF and HW issues.
  • Gain exposure to soldering techniques and use of standard engineering test equipment (oscilloscopes, DMMs, spectrum analyzers, VNAs, etc.).
  • Develop or enhance automation tools (Python, Excel, Power BI) to streamline data processing, modeling workflows, or engineering reporting.
  • Participate in antenna characterization tasks such as tuning, matching, and test data collection.
  • Document engineering work products, test methods, analysis processes, and project outcomes.
  • Present end-of-internship findings to engineering leadership.
