About The Position

The program offers interns exposure to Environmental Education content development, communication, and guest engagement. Interns will work Environmental Educators to lead educational programming and providing operational support for the department. Interns will assist in the implementation and instruction of Camp H2O. Interns will collaborate with Environmental Educators on the development of educational curriculum to ensure an overall positive and dynamic learning experience that is tailored for guests. In addition, interns may participate in occasional evening or weekend events including but not limited to outreach opportunities and professional development events.

Requirements

  • This internship may involve physical labor, and therefore interns must be able to climb stairs and ladders and should be capable of lifting at least 50lbs.
  • Interns must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Interns will need to have a flexible schedule as the schedule may vary from week to week.
  • Typically, this intern will be onsite from 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday-Friday. Including 30 minutes for lunch and may include weekends and holidays.
  • Previous animal care experience is not necessary.
  • This is an experience-based, paid internship.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate learning experiences that are tailored to the needs of each individual group (schools, camps, and special interest groups).
  • Assist with the development of education curricula that are hands-on and interdisciplinary (STEAM).
  • Collaborate with internal departments to create an exceptional guest experience.
  • Provide the highest standard of customer service to guests.
  • Develop a final project with the guidance of Education department leadership team.
  • Provide an oral presentation (e.g., PowerPoint, Storymaps) on the final project.
