The goal of Whitman-Walker’s External Affairs Internship Program is to enlist and nurture college level students who are interested in pursuing communications and marketing opportunities within a healthcare organization. The Intern position is part of the External Affairs department which oversees all Communications, Public Relations and Community Relations events and activities. The External Affairs Intern will work alongside External Affairs staff on projects ensuring that the interests, purpose, and mission of Whitman-Walker are clearly articulated in all external communications, including graphic design, social media, newsletters, publications, signage, websites, and events. The External Affairs Internship is supervised by our Senior Director of Communications and located at: Whitman-Walker at LIZ, 1377 R St. NW, 2nd Floor, Washington DC 20009. Interns will have a chance to participate in a range of activities to support the work of the External Affairs Department and will gain valuable real-world experience in marketing and communications withing a community-centered health environment. The experience will include: Learning and assisting in the development of communications materials for Whitman-Walker Health, Whitman-Walker Health System, Whitman-Walker Foundation and Whitman-Walker Health. Learning experience alongside the Senior Director of Communications to brainstorm pitches to national and local media about programs, services, and news that further the reputation and brand of Whitman-Walker. Learning how to collaborate with the External Affairs staff on the graphic design and creative process. “Shadow” healthcare workers in their clinical environments.
