About The Position

MWH is seeking a Project Controls Intern to join us on a large water and wastewater construction project in Austin, TX. As a Project Controls Intern, this individual will be an integral part of the project team, supporting cost, schedule, and reporting efforts that help ensure successful project delivery. This internship offers hands-on exposure to project controls fundamentals on a complex, large-scale construction project. The intern will work closely with Project Controls Specialists, Project Managers, and Field Teams to gain practical experience in cost tracking, scheduling support, and construction data analysis.

Requirements

  • In progress toward earning a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Marketing, or related degree.
  • Experienced with complete Microsoft Office Suite, excellent writing and communications skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities for working in diverse team environments with staff, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Experience with/aptitude for construction and/or mechanical processes.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the AEC industry.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with basic cost tracking activities, including reviewing commitments, invoices, and budget updates.
  • Support data entry and maintenance in project systems such as CMiC under supervision.
  • Help prepare cost reports and summaries for internal project meetings.
  • Assist with tracking potential changes, trends, and cost impacts.
  • Learn how project budgets, forecasts, and cash flow projections are developed and maintained.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly project controls reports, dashboards, and presentations.
  • Extract basic project data from CMiC and other systems for review and analysis.
  • Help ensure cost and schedule data is organized, accurate, and timely.
  • Support earned value and performance tracking efforts at a foundational level.
  • Assist with documentation related to project controls, including logs, trackers, and reports.
  • Support coordination between project controls, project management, and field teams.
  • Participate in project meetings to gain exposure to real-world construction decision-making.
  • Perform basic calculations and data validation as needed.
  • Shadow Project Controls Specialists and Project Managers.
  • Gain exposure to large-scale water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
  • Learn how cost, schedule, and risk are integrated to support project success.
  • Participate in mentorship check-ins and structured internship development activities
