About The Position

This part-time internship is a hybrid role located in Michigan and will be 25 hours per week. You will report to the State Director, Michigan. This internship will run from June 1-August 15. Common Cause is seeking an intern to work with our teams relating to voting and elections, redistricting, and democracy reform. In this role you will assist with advocacy campaigns, grassroots engagement, research, policy development, communications, and/or member outreach and events. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who has a commitment to a fair and transparent democracy, and who is interested in learning more about government affairs and the legislative process.

Requirements

  • A passion for learning about elections, organizing, and the legislative process
  • A desire and an ability to work in a non-partisan manner
  • A willingness to build your organizational skills and attention to detail
  • A willingness to build your writing and listening skills
  • A willingness to learn new skills

Responsibilities

  • Supporting legislative advocacy and volunteer communications
  • Assisting with coalition work on democracy reform initiatives
  • Engaging in election protection organizing and voter outreach
  • Preparing communications materials and supporting community education events
  • Contributing to research and writing projects on democracy issues
