The Internal Audit Manager leads the Bank’s internal audit function, developing and executing an enterprise-wide internal auditing strategy aligned with regulatory and industry standards. The role oversees internal controls, risk management processes, and the auditing governance framework to support long‑term objectives. The person plans and manages audit schedules, risk assessments, and annual audit plans while collaborating with key functions such as finance, risk, IT, security, and compliance, business lines and external audit resources. The incumbent prepares clear audit reports with recommendations, performs selected audits, and supports the development of audit capabilities across the organization. This role reports directly to the Bank’s Audit Committee with administrative reporting to and coordination with the Bank’s CEO.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or related field.
  • Seven (7) years of relevant experience in banking internal audit, bank risk management or the equivalent.
  • Proven track record of building and leading an internal audit function, audit projects, including the management of external project resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of banking regulations, including those from regulatory bodies like the FDIC, Federal Reserve, OCC, CFPB, CA DFPI, etc.
  • Experience interacting with a senior leadership team, and/or supporting an Audit Committee or comparable governance body
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex, concurrent projects while maintaining professionalism, confidentiality, and strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree or equivalent (e.g., MBA, Master’s in Accounting, Finance, or related field).
  • Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), or other relevant audit/risk credentials.
  • Experience in a mid‑size or community banking environment or other highly regulated financial services setting.

Responsibilities

  • Leads the Bank‑wide internal audit function and related programs aligned with regulatory requirements, industry standards, and Audit Committee direction.
  • Ensures the annual audit plan reflects key risks, emerging issues, and opportunities to enhance controls.
  • Collaborates with Finance, IT, Compliance, Operations, and business units to support audit readiness and reinforce risk and control awareness across the Bank.
  • Oversees planning and coordination of internal and external audit activities.
  • Performs select internal audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and risk‑mitigation processes.
  • Prepares clear, actionable audit reports and ensures audit findings are monitored to resolution.
  • Identifies and assesses risks related to financial reporting, compliance, and operations.
  • Evaluates the internal control environment and communicates control gaps and improvement opportunities to leadership and the Audit Committee.
  • Maintains awareness of regulatory changes that impact audit practices, internal controls, and enterprise risk.
  • Ensures audit and governance activities support compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry expectations.
  • Completes all required compliance training on time, consistent with Bank‑wide expectations for all employees.
  • Upholds the Bank’s compliance standards through adherence to policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements in the execution of audit responsibilities.
  • Oversees the development and maintenance of policies related to internal controls, financial reporting, and audit governance.
  • Ensures policies are communicated clearly and applied consistently.
  • Prepares materials and provides updates to support effective Audit Committee oversight.
  • Maintains a strong, collaborative relationship with the Committee and ensures members have the information they need.
  • Promotes a strong risk‑management culture by providing guidance and awareness‑building for employees and Board members.
  • The position performs duties specific to the position and other functions as assigned.
