About The Position

We are seeking an experienced Regulatory & Export Compliance Attorney to serve as the company’s lead authority on export controls and sanctions. This individual will act as the company’s designated Empowered Official and provide hands-on, strategic guidance across ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and related regulatory frameworks. Why This Role Matters In the world of federal defense work, a single clerical error in a TAA can halt a multi-million dollar international program. You are not just a lawyer; you are the strategic facilitator that allows our technology to reach our global allies safely and legally. In this role, the International Trade Compliance Counsel will be responsible but not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • Requires a Juris Doctor Degree.
  • Admission to the Bar of at least one state is required or admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction if international equivalent.
  • 7+ years of experience in export controls, trade compliance and federal contracting (Law firm and/or In-house).
  • TAA Expertise - Proven track record of successfully securing DDTC approvals for complex technical assistance.
  • Federal Government Contracts Knowledge.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in aerospace, defense, space, or other highly regulated technology sectors strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead subject matter expert for ITAR, EAR, and OFAC compliance.
  • Act in the capacity of Empowered Official.
  • Lead export classification and jurisdiction determinations (USML, ECCN, Commodity Jurisdiction" (CJ)).
  • Develop, negotiate, and manage TAAs, MLAs, DSP licenses, and related authorizations..
  • Assess export and sanctions implications in proposals, prime contracts, subcontracts, and teaming arrangements, including FAR/DFARS export-related clauses.
  • Support FMS and DCS transactions and compliance with end-use, end-user, and retransfer restrictions.
  • Oversee the company’s Technology Control Plan (TCP).
  • Advise on restricted parties, restricted countries, and complex cross-border transactions.
  • Ability to participate and collaborate in meetings with customers, vendors, attorneys, management, and other third parties with regard to negotiation of agreements and general problem solving.
  • Support compliance at the intersection of export controls, classified information, and CUI.
  • Provide guidance on FCPA and anti-corruption risks in international business.
  • Deliver internal training and engage directly with regulators, including the U.S. Department of State’s Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).
  • Monitor regulatory developments and proactively advise leadership on emerging risks.
