About The Position

The External Affairs Intern assists with Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s philanthropic, civic impact, and government relations efforts. This position helps with events and programs coordinated through Monumental’s community platform, specifically the MSE Foundation and District of Play. Requirements

  • Related internship experience or coursework in public relations, journalism, communications, or sports management.
  • Excellent writing skills and demonstrated ability to produce long or short form content.
  • Understanding of media relations and social media.
  • Ability to balance and prioritize multiple tasks and complete in a timely manner.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills, organizational skills, critical thinking and general digital literacy.
  • Basic proficiency in Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
  • Knowledge of the sports business industry, including current issues and relevant trends.
  • Understanding of MSE’s overall branding and messaging goals.

Responsibilities

  • Support daily operations, projects, and activations organized by the External Affairs team.
  • Assist in the planning and carrying out of community and grassroots events.
  • Prepare event supplies and grassroots materials in advance of activations.
  • Coordinate with marketing teams from the Wizards, Capitals, Mystics, and Venues on grassroots initiatives, including event setup and breakdown as needed.
  • Support hosting External Affairs guests at Capital One Arena, providing wayfinding assistance and ensuring a 5-star guest experience.
  • Assist with coordinating and maintaining the department’s digital inventory.
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite to build digital content and event assets.
  • Support the MSE Foundation’s social media presence and generation of content ideas.
  • Assist with updates to the MSE Foundation and District of Play websites.
  • Collect and coordinate impact data related to the MSE Foundation and District of Play.
  • Propose new insights for civic engagement and collaborator impact strategies.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
