About The Position

The Interventional Radiologic Technologist at Appalachian Regional Healthcare – Hazard provides advanced imaging support for minimally invasive, image-guided diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. This position plays a critical role in delivering high-quality patient care by assisting physicians during interventional procedures while ensuring patient safety, radiation protection, and adherence to ARH policies and regulatory standards. Special Instructions Interventional Radiologic Technologist (One year IR experience required)

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree or higher in Radiologic Technology
  • Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program
  • ARRT certification in Radiography (R)
  • Current Kentucky state radiologic license
  • BLS
  • One year IR experience required

Nice To Haves

  • ARRT Advanced Certification in Vascular Interventional Radiography (VI) preferred
  • ACLS preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform interventional radiology procedures utilizing fluoroscopy, Computed Tomography, digital subtraction angiography (DSA), and ultrasound guidance
  • Assist radiologists and interventional physicians during vascular and non-vascular procedures
  • Prepare interventional suites, including equipment setup, sterile trays, contrast media, and supplies
  • Maintain strict sterile technique and follow ARH infection prevention policies
  • Position patients appropriately and operate imaging equipment to achieve optimal image quality
  • Monitor patients throughout procedures, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition
  • Administer contrast agents per ARH protocols and monitor for adverse reactions
  • Accurately document procedures, radiation dose metrics, contrast usage, and patient care in the electronic medical record
  • Practice radiation safety in accordance with ALARA principles and Kentucky state regulations
  • Ensure proper operation and troubleshooting of interventional imaging equipment
  • Participate in on-call coverage, including nights, weekends, and holidays as
  • Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia, and ancillary staff to ensure coordinated patient care
  • Maintain compliance with DNV , ARH policies, and federal/state regulations
  • Diagnostic angiography

  • PICC line, port, and central line placements
  • Thrombectomy and thrombolysis
  • Biopsies and drain placements
  • Embolization procedures
  • IVC filter placement and retrieval
