About The Position

The Ford Foundation Equity Initiative (FFEI) Internship Program at The Henry Ford is a cohort-based program that offers professional development, mentorship, and networking opportunities. We invite diverse candidates who are curious about careers in the museum world to become a part of our legacy and take it forward. For Summer 2026, internships will last 12 weeks, projected to begin on May 26th, 2026 and conclude on August 21st, 2026. Candidates who have a disability, identify as Black, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, Arab, Middle Eastern, Hispanic, Latino/a/x, LGBTQIA+, or who exist at the intersection of these identities are encouraged to apply. We encourage all interested candidates to submit applications sooner rather than later. The FFEI Internship Program’s mission is to offer opportunities in museum work to emerging professionals who identify with historically marginalized groups and to invite our interns to think outside the box and explore their careers in new ways. Participants will engage in the program through various bi-weekly professional development workshops hosted on our Dearborn campus. Workshops typically occur on Wednesdays during the work week. It is mandatory for participants to attend, and applicants should work with their leadership to ensure proper attendance. Attendance to our Intern Orientation is also mandatory. Our 2026 Summer Intern Orientation will occur on May 26th, 2026. Through this internship, you will have the chance to complete a specific long-term project that supports the creation and delivery of the educational offerings provided by Invention Convention Worldwide. Invention Convention Worldwide is a K-12 invention education program that teaches students problem-identification, problem-solving, entrepreneurship and creativity skills and builds confidence in invention, innovation and entrepreneurship for life. Invention Convention programs happen at the school, local, regional and national levels in the United States and a growing number of countries worldwide. One of the first events you will experience in this position is the RTX Invention Convention U.S. Nationals 2026, which takes place June 3-5 on the Floor of The Henry Ford Museum. Prepare to be onsite all 3 days of this event. After this exciting start, your position will be hybrid- part onsite and part online. You will learn of the several different programs that comprise the educational programming department, including the Independent Inventor Program, Youth Inventor Connects, The Invention Convention Worldwide Curriculum, The Alumni Program, and other programs as well.

Requirements

Applicants to this position must have at least 2 years of college experience.
College graduates and graduate students are also encouraged to apply.
