About The Position

Texas Rio Grande Public Defender (TRGPD) seeks a full-time Investigator for its Maverick RPD team located in Maverick, TX. TRGPD delivers indigent criminal defense to clients in rural areas of South Texas.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent
Car, driver’s license and automobile insurance
Resourcefulness, creativity, initiative and drive, tact, and discretion
TRGPD employees may not be actively engaged in outside employment related to law enforcement or prosecution due to ethical conflicts.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of computer applications, preferred
Basic working knowledge of social work and public benefits programs, preferred
Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred

Responsibilities

Locate and interview victims, witnesses, and law enforcement personnel; draft statements, maintain interview notes.
Locate, gather and analyze records, reports and documents, scan documents into case management system; serve subpoenas.
Interview clients to gather factual and mitigation information.
Visit crime scenes and other case related locations.
Prepare written reports.
Testify in court.
Notarize legal documents, if applicable.
Maintain accurate and complete client files and administrative records, including data entry into case management system.
Collaborate with team members regarding case strategy.
Prepare administrative reports required by TRGPD.
Comply with ethical and confidentiality requirements.
Any other relevant duties assigned by the supervisor or members of the team.
