About The Position

The ideal candidate will be an enterprising problem-solver with a passion for investing who can work collaboratively to support a small team focused on generating attractive, long-term, risk-adjusted returns while preserving capital. The individual must have the ability to articulate and defend well-reasoned opinions backed by rigorous due diligence through both oral and written communication to the investment team, clients, and the Investment Committee. He/she will be expected to meet with investment managers, both current and prospective, including travel to and attendance at manager meetings. Requirements

  • Education and/or Experience - Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a business-related field.
  • Language Skills - Ability to write investment recommendations and correspondence. Ability to speak and present effectively before clients and investment committees.
  • Mathematical Skills - Ability to understand and analyze financial data. Advanced understanding of applied investment concepts such as statistical inference, probability, and optimization.
  • Reasoning Ability - Ability to understand the market environment, including both opportunities and risks, and identify strategic investments with a goal of producing attractive long-term risk-adjusted returns while preserving capital.
  • Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have Advanced Excel skills and experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Investment Abilities - Comfortable questioning senior professionals at private market firms. Strong working knowledge of the financial markets, global economy, and private market investment managers.
  • Other Skills and Abilities - Attention to detail, strict adherence to deadlines, and advanced problem solving skills. Must have effective time management skills and the ability to multi-task. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Collegial and collaborative team member; able to work effectively in a small team and contribute to areas beyond the direct scope of responsibility. Ability to travel to meet with investment managers and to conduct due diligence. Ability to develop strong relationships with clients.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of investment strategies across all asset classes.
  • Assist in diligence processes for external investment managers across public and private markets; draft and present investment recommendations.
  • Monitor existing investments and conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis; lead update meetings with external managers, and attend annual meetings.
  • Serve as liaison to current and prospective investment managers; negotiate terms and coordinate with external service providers.
  • Participate in investment decision-making, including manager selection, rebalancing, and termination across asset classes.
  • Support asset allocation reviews and risk management initiatives for all investment pools.
  • Support legal due diligence and operational due diligence for prospective investment funds.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with external asset managers, vendors, legal counsel, peer investors, and other industry stakeholders.
  • Prepare and present materials to the WVUF Investment Committee as needed.
  • Manages ad hoc projects that aid in the management of the investment pools.
  • Conduct ad hoc projects and manager analysis.
