The Opportunity The Investment Operations Analyst I is responsible for supporting investment decision‑making by researching and analyzing securities using Bloomberg and other market data sources. This role partners closely with USAA Traders, Strategists, and Reporting Analysts to evaluate securities, validate data, and provide timely operational support. The analyst creates, defines, and maintains securities records across the order management system, accounting platform, and data warehouse. Additionally, this role performs initial post‑trade compliance testing to help ensure transactions adhere to regulatory and internal guidelines. Ideal candidates bring strong analytical skills, a solid understanding of financial concepts—particularly bond pricing and fixed‑income mathematics—and experience with data tools such as SQL, Python, VBA, and Power BI. Success in this role requires strong organizational and project management skills, the ability to work independently and within a team, and experience assisting with control testing, audits, and identifying opportunities for process improvement. We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, or Charlotte, NC. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • 4 years of experience in investment operations or middle office functions within the financial services industry.
  • Knowledge and application of Securities laws and regulations.
  • Experience with investment control testing or audits.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to understand financial concepts, with a specific emphasis on bond pricing and general bond mathematics.
  • Proficiency with data tools that promote analysis and automation such as SQL, Python, VBA, Power BI
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Experience assisting with control testing and audits, and identifying opportunities for process improvement
  • US military experience through military service or a military spouse/domestic partner

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for independently valuing moderately complex new securities and completing securities transactions data entry (sector, security type, collateral type, issuer, obligor, sponsor, guarantor).
  • Corrects security master data when errors are reported and performs peer reviews.
  • Diagnoses and investigates system and data problems and determines root cause of errors.
  • As needed partners with IT, software vendors and senior team members to solve issues.
  • As a subject matter expert, detects errors, researches, determines cause and partners with Portfolio Strategists, Traders, and Investment Accounting areas or senior analysts for resolution.
  • Corrects moderately complex trade data problems.
  • Notifies Compliance, traders and portfolio managers of any compliance violations as required by compliance/regulatory requirements.
  • Assists with Control testing and audits.
  • Identifies opportunities and recommends potential solutions.
  • Works with Custodian banks to resolve trade settlement issues or securities collateral movements.
  • Responsible for regulatory reporting and processes corporate actions.
  • Serves as a resource to team members on escalated issues of a routine nature.
  • Approves peer or subordinate work.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.
