Purpose To provide skilled specialized maintenance and repair of University irrigation systems.

Requirements

  • High school graduation or GED.
  • Two years of experience performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on commercial irrigation systems.
  • Able to obtain an Irrigation Technician License through TCEQ within one calendar year of being hired.
  • Current Class "C" Operator Driver License required.
  • Prior to date of hire, applicant selected must provide a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) showing a driving history going back 36 months. This includes all states resides in for the past 36 months. MVR will be evaluated to determine eligibility to drive a University-owned vehicle.
  • If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Drivers Licenses within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
  • Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of course work or training in irrigation maintenance and installation.
  • More than four years of experience performing semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in irrigation fields.
  • Have one of the following: Irrigator's, Auditor, Inspector's, BPAT License.
  • Experience with installation and repair of central controlled irrigation systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects irrigation systems for proper performance.
  • Performs repairs, adjustments, and settings on the campus irrigation system in a timely manner, includes both centralized and manual systems.
  • Performs routing preventative maintenance on the irrigation system.
  • Improves the irrigation system for water conservation.
  • Sets irrigation timers on automatic control devices in assigned area of responsibility to promote healthy plant growth, while at the same time following up to date water restrictions.
  • Follows established safety procedures.
  • Maintains the shop areas, work sites, equipment, and tools in a safe and orderly fashion.
  • Drives, cleans and maintains University vehicles and equipment.
  • Attends shop and departmental meetings.
  • Attends required safety training sessions or classes.
  • Completes and submits accurate daily labor and weekly time reports.
  • Other related duties will be assigned, including working with other departments within the University and throughout The University of Texas System.
  • May work in confined spaces, be exposed to loud noises, be exposed to dust/allergens, and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • May twist, grasp, pull, and bend.
  • Maintain acceptable driver rating as established in Policy: UTS157 Section 2.5.4.
