About The Position

Cogent Analytics is seeking a hands-on and tech-savvy IT Intern to support the company’s technology operations and infrastructure. This role provides practical experience in IT setup, device management, troubleshooting, and end-user support in a fast-paced office environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, adaptable, and eager to learn, with strong technical curiosity, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical users. This is internship is based in Greensboro, North Carolina with a minimum requirement of 20 hours per week. We are looking for our IT Intern to officially start as early as this Spring!

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
  • Basic familiarity with Windows environments, including navigation, settings, and common troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of applications such as Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint for collaboration and communication.
  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, including laptops, desktops, monitors, docking stations, and peripheral devices.
  • Ability to assist with device setup, workstation configuration, and basic troubleshooting of common hardware or software issues.
  • Attention to detail when tracking IT inventory, labeling devices, and managing storage or equipment staging.
  • Ability to follow technical documentation, standard operating procedures (SOPs), or setup instructions accurately.
  • Clearly and patiently assist non-technical users with technical issues, providing guidance in a professional and approachable manner.
  • Accurately track, label, and manage IT equipment and inventory, ensuring records and storage are consistently up to date.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle general office tasks and assist with travel, expenses, and event coordination.
  • Authorized to work in the United States and located in Greensboro, NC.
  • Must be able to work 20 hours per week, with occasional evening or weekend availability.

  • Experience or exposure to help desk environments, ticketing systems, or end-user technical support is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with physical IT setup - Set up monitors, desktops, laptops, docking stations, printers, and other peripherals, ensuring all devices are connected, powered on, and ready for use.
  • Prepare and organize IT equipment - Unbox new devices, label them with asset tags, charge batteries, and stage them for deployment or distribution.
  • Support workstation setup and breakdown - Help move and set up employee workstations during office relocations, seat changes, or hardware refresh projects, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Maintain accurate IT inventory - Verify equipment, check serial numbers, update records, and organize storage areas to keep the IT asset inventory up to date.
  • Provide basic help desk support - Respond to common technical issues such as login problems, software installations, and peripheral setup, escalating more complex issues to senior IT staff.
  • Document troubleshooting and resolutions - Record all troubleshooting steps, updates, and outcomes in the ticketing system for future reference and knowledge sharing.
  • Deliver professional technical support - Assist employees with technical requests and setup days in a friendly, patient, and clear manner, ensuring a positive user experience.
