About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for an IT Network Engineer based at the Cleveland Works facility. This role is part of a collaborative IT team reporting to the Manager of IT Network Services and is responsible for supporting and advancing network infrastructure across a complex steel manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in heavy industrial settings, brings hands-on experience with Cisco enterprise networking in a distributed multi-site organization, and thrives in environments where documentation is limited and resourcefulness is required. This position requires travel to other Cleveland-Cliffs facilities as business needs dictate, including the expectation of spending multiple days on-site when needed.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent experience
  • Minimum three to five years of experience with Ethernet LAN topologies in an enterprise or industrial environment
  • Minimum three years of experience with TCP/IP protocol
  • Experience supporting network infrastructure in heavy industrial or manufacturing environments
  • Experience with Cisco wireless access points, routers, and switches
  • Experience with Microsoft Visio
  • Strong analytical capabilities with attention to detail

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Network Engineering or related field
  • Proficient at configuring Cisco routers and switches, including development and implementation of features that optimize network communications
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing Cisco Catalyst Center at scale, including network assurance dashboards and automated device provisioning
  • Familiarity with network automation concepts including scripting, templating, and programmability to streamline provisioning and reduce manual configuration effort
  • Experience with OT/IT network segmentation and industrial networking protocols
  • Demonstrated experience as a Network Monitoring champion — developing monitoring strategies, defining alert thresholds, building dashboards, and driving observability best practices across teams
  • Hands-on firewall administration experience, including policy management, rule review, and troubleshooting across enterprise or industrial environments
  • Development of SOW (Statement of Work) for network infrastructure projects
  • Proficient using Microsoft Visio to create detailed network drawings
  • Experience configuring router ACLs and logging
  • Experience with firewalls and other security appliances and tools

Responsibilities

  • Understand and participate in safety-related topics and actions, following the established safety practices of both plant-based and IT-related safety programs
  • Understand and develop expertise in the functionality and deployment of the Cisco Core, Distribution, Access model
  • Be involved with and lead teams to implement Manufacturing Layer 3 switching in the ongoing effort to separate Operating Area networks from Business networks, including OT/IT network segmentation initiatives
  • Assist in the deployment of firewalls and various security-based monitoring appliances and tools
  • Work closely with IT Security to understand and mitigate potential network exposure to bad actors
  • Serve as a champion for Network Monitoring best practices, driving continuous improvement across toolsets, alerting standards, and visibility into network health across the enterprise
  • Maintain and improve standards within monitoring tool sets utilizing best practices, including configuration of tools, report development, and configuration changes to network infrastructure equipment
  • Administer and optimize Cisco Catalyst Center for network provisioning, automation, assurance, and lifecycle management
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to monitoring configuration, mapping, processes, and change records
  • Provide support for network management tools including SolarWinds
  • Provide base support (Break-Fix-Moves-Adds-Changes) and coordinate/participate in the design and installation of network infrastructure projects, including directing local resources for proper cabling, terminations, enclosure/patch panel, and rack mounting
  • Design, configure, coordinate, and participate in the installation of all network infrastructure equipment including access points, routers, switches, and voice gateways
  • Dig into complex network problems with limited documentation, leveraging experience, intuition, and available telemetry to identify root cause and drive resolution
  • This position requires lifting and installation of network infrastructure equipment in offices and on the plant floor
  • Other duties as assigned.
