About The Position

We are seeking a motivated IT Security Engineer I to join the AEGIS Security Infrastructure Engineering team supporting the NASA AEGIS Program. This role supports the engineering, configuration, testing, and documentation of secure network and security infrastructure solutions within a complex, multi-vendor enterprise environment. The IT Security Engineer I will work under the guidance of senior engineers to assist with firewall platforms such as Cisco ASA and Fortinet, SASE solutions, Web Application Firewalls (WAFs), and other security technologies. This position collaborates with engineering teams, operations staff, and program stakeholders to help deliver secure and compliant solutions in support of NASA’s mission and OCIO customers. Primary Responsibilities Assist in the configuration, testing, and documentation of network security solutions Support engineering efforts involving Cisco ASA, Fortinet firewalls, SASE, and WAF technologies Participate in troubleshooting firewall, network security, and connectivity issues and help perform root cause analysis Work with senior engineers to implement secure architecture designs and infrastructure changes Support change management activities, peer reviews, and engineering lifecycle processes Maintain technical documentation including diagrams, procedures, and implementation plans Monitor security infrastructure performance and assist with issue resolution Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support secure system deployments and ongoing operations Ensure adherence to enterprise security standards and government compliance requirements Basic Qualifications Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience 1–3+ years of experience in network security, cybersecurity, or infrastructure engineering Foundational knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, NAT, and firewall policy concepts Exposure to enterprise security platforms such as Cisco ASA, Fortinet, or cloud security technologies Preferred Qualifications Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, or Fortinet NSE Associate level certifications Strong oral and written communication skills Willingness to learn enterprise security architecture and engineering best practices Experience supporting security or networking technologies in lab, internship, academic, or professional environments Familiarity with change management processes and technical documentation standards Experience working in large enterprise or government environments is a plus If you're looking for comfort, keep scrolling. Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 1–3+ years of experience in network security, cybersecurity, or infrastructure engineering
  • Foundational knowledge of networking concepts such as TCP/IP, routing, switching, NAT, and firewall policy concepts
  • Exposure to enterprise security platforms such as Cisco ASA, Fortinet, or cloud security technologies

Nice To Haves

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+, Network+, or Fortinet NSE Associate level certifications
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn enterprise security architecture and engineering best practices
  • Experience supporting security or networking technologies in lab, internship, academic, or professional environments
  • Familiarity with change management processes and technical documentation standards
