The IT Sr Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, optimization, security, and ongoing support of the organization’s enterprise LAN/WAN infrastructure. This role blends hands-on technical expertise with architectural planning and strategic network engineering initiatives. The Network Engineer ensures high availability, performance, scalability, and security across corporate offices and operational facilities, supporting both day-to-day operations and long-term technology initiatives.

Requirements

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in network engineering within a mid-sized or enterprise environment.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco and Meraki networking technologies.
  • In-depth knowledge of routing and switching, including VLANs, STP, QoS, and high availability design.
  • Experience with routing protocols such as EIGRP, OSPF, and BGP.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs and work on their feet as required
  • Must qualify for Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours
  • Ability to travel up to 20%

Nice To Haves

  • Cisco CCNA certification; CCNP or equivalent advanced certification
  • Strong working knowledge of VPN technologies (IPSEC, SSL), firewalls, DNS, DHCP, and network security principles.
  • Experience with network monitoring, logging, and authentication tools.
  • Proven ability to design practical, cost-effective, and reliable network solutions aligned with business needs.
  • Experience working in structured change management environments.
  • Availability to participate in an on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and standardized network architectures across Cisco and Meraki platforms.
  • Engineer and optimize LAN, WAN, wireless, and VPN solutions to meet business and operational requirements.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve network performance and security using tools such as SolarWinds Orion, SNMP, Syslog, TACACS+, and other enterprise monitoring solutions.
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and traffic/protocol optimization across complex environments.
  • Lead and participate in network infrastructure projects including upgrades, site expansions, cloud connectivity, and technology refresh initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and third-party vendors to deliver reliable and secure network solutions.
  • Develop and maintain network documentation, standards, diagrams, configurations, and change control processes.
  • Design and support network security controls including firewalls, segmentation, VPNs, NAC, and secure remote access solutions.
  • Support business continuity and disaster recovery initiatives, ensuring resilient network design and rapid recovery capabilities.
  • Evaluate emerging networking technologies, tools, and service providers to drive continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Contribute to the organization’s cybersecurity posture through secure network architecture, policy enforcement, and best practices.
  • Respond to and manage network-related incidents in alignment with IT service management and incident response procedures.
  • Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior IT staff as needed.
  • Support server, desktop, cloud, and application teams in cross-functional infrastructure initiatives.
