About The Position

We are looking for a veteran systems engineer and expert hands-on builder to design and implement the IT systems of a fast-paced Silicon Valley medical device startup. This person will create system designs, draft operational processes, deploy the network technologies, determine the best practices, and lead system administration operations. Candidates should be a guru on working with high-availability systems with complex networks, storage systems, databases, web applications, and VM farms. You will architect solutions for Windows, Mac, UNIX, and mobile platforms and must demonstrate expert proficiency doing so. The ideal candidate will also be flexible and flourish in a fast-paced and challenging environment. You should be a self-starter and have excellent motivation, leadership, and ingenuity to excel at this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science preferred or related field or related experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a prior system engineer role.
  • Solid understanding of network concepts such as WAN, LAN, TCP, UDP, DHCP, DNS, and other related protocols
  • Experience in designing server infrastructures with Microsoft Active Directory solution and administering hybrid on-prem + cloud infrastructures.
  • Experience in Audio/Visual solution e.g. Zoom Room supporting large team meetings in a hybrid environment with on-site and remote participants, such as employees’ all-hands meetings.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; capable of following up, training users, making presentations to an internal audience, and interacting positively with upper management.
  • Strong technical analytical skills with a basic understanding of IT systems, network, remote VPN, security, and business applications.
  • Creative, flexible, and collaborative in approach to technical problem solving.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, at a variety of technical levels.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of the diverse team in a fast-paced environment and with multiple projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in supporting IT Collaboration Platform such as Box, Zoom and Office 365 is a plus.
  • Medical device/Biotech background is a plus, but not required
  • Requires full time onsite at San Jose, CA office
  • 10% of travel may be required

Responsibilities

  • Take a major role in architecting a scalable hybrid infrastructure leveraging on-prem & cloud solutions such as AWS and Azure.
  • Plan and deploy server/VM resources for all IT and R&D engineering services.
  • Monitor performance, capacity, uptime and other metrics of the systems infrastructure to proactively identify issues, and provide suggestions for changes/upgrades.
  • Routinely perform testing on business-critical processes such as backups, disaster recovery and breach response.
  • Develop scripts, automations, templates, system images, etc to streamline ongoing IT operations.
  • Plan and coordinate maintenance windows, notify affected users and document results.
  • Supplement the help desk team to provide remote and on-site technical support to internal users, consisting of a team of highly technical software and hardware engineers to solve interesting and complex technical issues.
  • Maintain a searchable knowledge base of technical How-To and FAQs, keeping up-to-date documentation to make sure users can be productive for their day-to-day IT needs.
  • Participate in IT projects such as rolling out new systems and solutions on an as-needed basis.
  • Host regular training of IT cloud collaboration tools such as Box, Zoom and Slack.
  • Maintain and support on-site conference rooms with Zoom Room technology and various Audio/Visual equipment.
  • Prepare equipment and perform dry-run with key leaders in different departments to ensure smooth operation during large team and employee all-hands meeting.
  • Conduct regular IT audits and verify logs in the area of account access, potential email spam activities and report any suspicious activities as needed.
  • Maintain trained status for, and comply with, all relevant aspects of the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality Management System to ensure product and support regulatory compliance.
  • Understand and adhere to the PROCEPT BioRobotics Quality and EHS policies.
