About The Position

The primary role of the IT Systems Engineer is to manage core IT systems and support both operational and scientific teams. This role uses a ticketing system to track and resolve issues while coordinating closely with key stakeholders. The role requires a hands-on technical owner for IT assets including hardware, software, and networking systems, and closely partners with our laboratory team and external vendors to ensure reliable, efficient day-to-day operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in systems engineering / infrastructure administration.
  • Strong background in IT hardware, software, and cloud systems including workstations, Office365 apps, cloud services, security systems, and collaboration tools.
  • Demonstrated strong experience with IT ticketing systems
  • Required experience with MDM solutions (such as InTune).
  • Working knowledge with Windows, Mac OS, mobile devices, and other IT peripherals.
  • Ability to capture and understand workstation event logs and performance metrics.
  • Knowledge and experience with DNS, DHCP, SMTP, and other network systems and protocols.
  • Experience managing server rooms, including patch cabling, enterprise network appliances, and servers.
  • Understands compliance frameworks (e.g., NIST) to support audit requirements.
  • Experience with Active Directory and Entra ID user and group management, Single Sign-On (SSO) and auto provisioning.
  • Experience with automation tools and scripting.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and change-control discipline.
  • May require occasional after-hours or weekend work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with JAMF a plus.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Google, etc.) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain IT systems, end-point devices (Windows, MacOS, iOS, etc.), servers, infrastructure, and associated hardware.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system and IT incidents for users in multiple locations/remote.
  • Support IT team infrastructure projects such as cloud migrations, network redesigns, and security upgrades following best practices
  • Work closely with IT team to support, maintain, upgrade, and resolve system issues in the office and with cloud systems, documenting any completed tasks or changes.
  • Deploy and manage workstations and mobile device configuration and policy (company owned/BYOD).
  • Test and verify new system changes and report findings, staying up to date with industry IT trends.
