About The Position

The Janitor and Maintenance Support position plays a vital role in supporting the mission of The Salvation Army by ensuring that all facilities, vehicles, and operational needs are maintained in a clean, safe, and functional condition. This position is responsible for janitorial services, building and grounds support, vehicle oversight, basic maintenance, and communication with leadership regarding facility and program needs.

Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • Related experience in the field of janitorial services and maintenance service. Preferably three years of experience.
  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age or older and have a current WA Driver License
  • Must be able to clear the Motor Vehicle Records check.

  • Assist in the set-up and take-down procedures throughout the facility.
  • As necessary, do inside janitorial services that may arise during the day for special events or in the absence of the janitor.
  • As necessary, make supply runs for maintenance and janitorial supplies.
  • Repair basic building or housing systems assigned, including basic electrical systems (switches, outlets, breakers, fixtures, and minor wiring), general carpentry needs (woodwork, door maintenance, floor repair, wallboard, and plaster work, painting, and lock systems repair), plumbing, drainage, roof drains, heating, and cooling systems.
  • Responsible for maintaining a complete and accurate inventory of all maintenance equipment.
  • Any other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Teams, and Outlook (email and calendar)
  • Data Entry – able to learn skills required to enter clients.
  • Knowledgeable of basic internet skills
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
  • Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, and file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.

Responsibilities

  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, offices, classrooms, worship spaces, gymnasium, and common areas.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors according to schedule.
  • Empty trash and recycling and properly dispose of waste.
  • Restock restroom and janitorial supplies.
  • Clean windows, doors, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces
  • Follow all Salvation Army policy safety, sanitation, and infection-control standards.
  • Work with supervisor and management to devise regular janitorial duties routine and schedule.
  • Vacuum all carpets daily.
  • Dustmop all floors daily.
  • Mop floors as needed.
  • Mop the entire fellowship hall floor on Monday’s, Wednesday’s, and Friday’s
  • Sweep, dust mop and spot damp mop tile floors no later than 8:00 a.m.
  • Sanitize the bathrooms daily.
  • Empty all trashcans daily.
  • Staff Break room - clean sinks, counter tops, window, dust ledges, sanitize and empty garbage.
  • Sanitize trashcans as needed.
  • Clean restrooms daily, sinks, toilets & floors.
  • Administration Offices – vacuum, clean windows, dust ledges, empty trash cans.
  • 2nd Floor Storage Room – sweep and empty trash weekly – more often during Christmas. Mop floor as needed.
  • Dustmop all floors daily.
  • Spot mop floors as needed.
  • Mop the entire fellowship hall floor on Wednesday’s & Friday’s
  • Empty all trashcans daily.
  • Empty all trashcans daily.
  • Use auto scrubber on the last Friday of the month.
  • Clean all tables and chairs on Friday.
  • Remove all trash.
  • Wipe down all woodwork as needed.
  • Vacuum and damp mop floors as needed.
  • Sanitize trashcans as needed.
  • Vacuum Tuesday and Thursday, more often if necessary.
  • Empty trash daily, remove cobwebs, clean all glass, including glass doors.
  • Dust all fixtures, pews, altar, podium, windowsills, and all woodwork daily.
  • Straighten all materials in the chairs, (songbooks, Bibles, etc.).
  • Polish altar and piano.
  • Sanitize all fixtures, toilets, sinks & dispensers.
  • Clean woodwork.
  • Empty trashcans.
  • Sanitize trashcans.
  • Vacuum Tuesday and Friday.
  • Clean chairs and tables.
  • Remove all trash as needed.
  • Clean windows as needed.
  • Wipe down all woodwork as needed.
  • Sanitize trashcans.
  • Remove all trash daily.
  • Dust all ledges, jams, and sills, etc. daily.
  • Wipe down all woodwork.
  • Sanitize trashcans.
  • Dust mop and damp mop floor daily.
  • Buff floor twice a week. Strip and wax when directed to do so (Game Room only).
  • Remove cobwebs as needed.
  • Clean walls as needed.
  • Dust mop floors daily and spot damp mop daily.
  • Sanitize all drinking fountains daily.
  • Wipe down all woodwork.
  • Empty trashcans daily.
  • Wipe down counters.
  • Clean glass.
  • Sweep, mop, strip and wax floor as needed or when directed to do so.
  • Clean showers.
  • Sanitize daily.
  • Clean toilets & sinks daily.
  • Stock toilet paper, paper towels, and soap in dispensers.
  • Empty outside trash cans (as needed)
  • Clean property grounds and all other properties
  • Sweep front walkway as needed.
  • All combustible materials must be away from all water heaters, WITHOUT EXCEPTION!
  • All supplies must be kept in a neat and orderly fashion. If supplies are getting low, notify the Property Manager immediately.
  • All supplies are to be kept under lock and key. Rooms must be kept free of clutter and just always be left neat, clean, and orderly.
  • All supplies are to be returned to their proper place, no mops, buckets, etc. are to be left out or not emptied.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Corps Officer or Supervisor.
  • Any other jobs that may prove necessary from time to time.
  • Handle all building-related issues including damage, repairs, upgrades, vehicles, and other facility-related matters.
  • Perform basic maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, changing light bulbs, tightening fixtures, and touch-up work.
  • Monitor building conditions and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and coordinate with outside vendors and contractors as needed.
  • Oversee Corps vehicles and support the transportation needs of the Seattle White Center Corps
  • Ensure vehicles are clean, maintained, fueled, and properly scheduled.
  • Report on vehicle maintenance needs and assist with coordination of repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with vehicle safety policies.
  • Set up and tear down tables, chairs, and equipment for worship services, programs, meetings, and community events.
  • Ensure rooms are cleaned and reset after use.
  • Keep the Operations Manager and Corps Officer informed of all facility, equipment, vehicle, and program-related needs.
  • Maintain janitorial and maintenance equipment and ensure proper storage.
  • Track supply usage and request replenishment as needed.
  • Follow The Salvation Army policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
  • Support the mission, values, and Christian principles of The Salvation Army
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
