About The Position

The Janitorial Manager is responsible for leading and developing the custodial team while ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, safety, and service quality. This role oversees daily operations, supports team performance, manages administrative responsibilities, and steps in to perform cleaning duties as needed. Flexibility, strong leadership, and exceptional organizational skills are essential. This position is responsible for the supervision of the custodial department and all other cleaning services for all University maintained properties.

Requirements

  • Five years of relevant janitorial management experience.
  • Experience managing a team of 20 or more employees.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to maintain positive relationships with customers, managers, and coworkers.
  • Adequate trade knowledge to estimate labor hours, materials, and visualize project requirements.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and shop drawings.
  • Commitment to safety and the proper use of equipment and cleaning products.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and support custodial team members to ensure consistent, high‑quality execution of all cleaning tasks.
  • Evaluate team member performance and collaborate with management on feedback, coaching, and advancement recommendations.
  • Provide training and skill development for new hires and existing staff.
  • Promote teamwork and maintain a positive, productive work environment.
  • Oversee daily operational reporting, including customer concerns, transportation issues, and other service-related updates.
  • Ensure work assignments and shifts are executed effectively, adapting to changing business needs.
  • Perform cleaning services as needed to support operations or fill coverage gaps.
  • Mix and apply detergents and cleaning solutions according to required specifications.
  • Operate cleaning equipment such as buffers, vacuums, and other custodial machinery.
  • Monitor safety compliance and report hazards, repair needs, or maintenance issues promptly.
  • Ensure adherence to all safety practices and industry standards across the team.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment for internal customers and team members.
  • Manage departmental administrative tasks, including ordering materials and supplies, processing timecards, and maintaining accurate documentation.
  • Assist with scheduling, inventory management, and operational planning.
  • Demonstrate strong internal customer service skills by actively listening, addressing employee concerns, and recommending positive solutions.
  • Make informed decisions, prioritize effectively, and balance multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
