About The Position

NIWC Atlantic Software Services requires ISHPI to provide emerging Department of Defense (DoD) and Department of Navy (DON) information technology, to design, develop, engineer, and maintain systems that will improve customer organizational efficiency. ISHPI provides support in the areas of Administrative Services, Applications Integration Management, Corporate Strategy Planning and Execution, Information Assurance (IA), Information Resource Management, and Information Technology (IT) Operations. Further task includes new standards engineering, prototype installation, application development, data interoperability, system design, system management and maintenance, data collection, analysis, and other management and implementation efforts in support of data translation, data mediation, and data mapping. ISHPI Information Technologies is seeking a skilled and experienced Java Developer (remote) to support their Software Services IPT contract. This role will build and maintain sophisticated web applications that support command operations. This role will also be a versatile developer with a proven track record of working on all tiers of a web application, including the user interface (UI), back-end services, and databases. Will be working within a dynamic team, you will utilize Agile processes to deliver robust, secure, and scalable software solutions that are vital to our mission.

Requirements

  • BS accredited degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related discipline.
  • At least seven (7) years of related experience as an experienced Java Developer with a strong background supporting mission-critical software solutions preferably within government and defense environments, including Navy command operations. Demonstrated expertise designing, developing, testing, and deploying secure, scalable, end-to-end web applications using modern Java technology stacks. Proven ability to work across all tiers of application development, including responsive user interface design, RESTful API development, back-end services, and database architecture and management.
  • Skilled in Agile methodologies and collaborative development environments, actively participating in sprint planning, daily scrums, reviews, and retrospectives to deliver high-quality software aligned with evolving mission requirements. Experienced in implementing REST APIs to enable system interoperability and data integration across enterprise platforms. Adept at using Git-based version control and structured code-merging practices to maintain repository integrity and code quality.
  • Strong background in troubleshooting, debugging, and enhancing existing applications to ensure optimal performance, security, and reliability. Proven ability to partner with stakeholders, analysts, and cross-functional technical teams to translate operational needs into effective technical solutions while delivering innovative features that support mission readiness and operational efficiency.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level II, - Must have, or obtain within 4 months, at least one of the following: CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate Security), CySA+ (CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst), GICSP (Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional), GSEC (GIAC Security Essentials Certification), CompTIA Security+ CE, CND (Certified Network Defender), or SSCP (Systems Security Certified Practitioner)
  • Requires U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy high-quality, end-to-end web applications using the Java technology stack.
  • Develop responsive and intuitive user interfaces, create and maintain RESTful services, and design and manage database schemas.
  • Actively participate in all phases of the Agile development lifecycle, including planning, scrums, sprints, and retrospectives.
  • Implement and manage REST APIs to facilitate seamless data sharing and integration between systems.
  • Utilize Git for version control and Spork for structured code merging to ensure code quality and maintain repository integrity.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders, analysts, and other developers to translate requirements into technical solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing software, ensuring applications are secure and performant.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define, design, and ship new features.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications.
