About The Position

The University of Central Oklahoma School of Music seeks a full-time one-year Instructor of Jazz Piano. Responsibilities of the position will include: teaching applied jazz piano to undergraduate and graduate students; directing jazz combos; teaching undergraduate and graduate music technology courses; and supporting recruiting efforts for the UCO School of Music Jazz Division. The successful candidate will recruit and retain students, support student creative activity and professional development, and contribute to a collaborative faculty environment. Applicants should have professional experience as a jazz pianist, evidence of success as an instructor of jazz piano, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to teach effectively in varied contexts. This is a temporary position for the 2026-27 school year.

  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
  • Ability to recruit and retain students.
  • A masters degree in music with jazz studies emphasis.
  • Extensive professional performance and teaching experience in the field of jazz piano.
  • A minimum of 3 years of university teaching experience in the area of jazz piano.

Nice To Haves

  • 4 years of college teaching experience.
