About The Position

The Job Developer provides individualized carrier counseling and job placement support based on the client’s needs, including job search and placement assistance, resume/cover letter development, and coaching to enhance interviewing skills. They conduct frequent outreach to develop and maintain an effective relationship with local employers and training providers to provide program participants with a network of employment and occupational skills opportunities. They identify employers willing to provide long-term employment opportunities to program participants with barriers to employment. And they actively participate in job fairs, recruitments, career and hiring events. The Job developer conducts monthly onsite workshops for program participants to include hiring fairs and training/skill advancement opportunities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; college degree is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with adult learning, workforce development, career training, case management, career counseling, job development and placement or other employment related field.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing, and networking techniques a plus
  • Strong organization and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in goal driven environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse client base.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of job development systems including assessment, resume writing, experience developing leads, organizing job fairs, recruitment, interviewing, and job placement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Personal computer literacy is required, including proficiency with the Internet, e-mail, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Licensed driver with reliable transportation.
  • Valid California driver's license, current vehicle insurance
  • Must be able to pass criminal background check and drug screen
  • Ability to bend and lift light objects
  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard
  • Capable of hearing and speaking to exchange information
  • Seeing to read reports and data
  • Ability to read and speak English
  • Must be able to work in a noisy, busy environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized job placement services for enrolled participants by working closely with Case Managers to place participants in unsubsidized employment. Job placement will be based on the skills, experience, and interests of each participant.
  • Ensure that each participant is prepared for employment by reviewing credentials and employment skills competencies certified through assessment and/or training provider and will ensure that each participant has a professional resume.
  • Providing the most current job leads to the employment of case managers on a weekly basis.
  • Build a professional relationship with local employers and training providers by conducting outreach, , training workshops, attending and coordinating monthly onsite/offsite job fairs with Director approval.
  • Identify employment opportunities for enrolled participants with minimal workplace skills and/or criminal backgrounds.
  • Pursue jobs enthusiastically, professionally, and quickly place participants in the most effective way.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining ongoing personal contacts with private, public, non-profit, and faith-based organizations to promote and create opportunities for placing participants.
  • Organize and coordinate the annual Veterans Village of San Diego Stand Down that assists homeless veterans by finding resources and planning for the event.
  • Support the project coordinator in organizing and facilitating homeless court sessions, assist clients in preparing for court appearances by gathering necessary documentation and providing legal referrals, and advocating for clients’ needs while working with legal professionals
  • Build professional relationships with the employer community by serving as a communication link between businesses and their needs and the workforce development system and its services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
