About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Sector is seeking a Journeyman Electrical / Electronic Engineer to support an Army Program focused on delivering advanced capabilities for operational decision-making in complex and dynamic environments. Journeyman Electrical / Electronic Engineer supports the design, development, testing, and integration of electrical and electronic systems under moderate supervision. This role is ideal for an engineer with a solid technical foundation who is ready to take on more complex tasks, contribute to project execution, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. The engineer will assist with circuit design, troubleshooting, documentation, and validation activities while continuing to deepen technical expertise and professional independence. Locations include Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD; Fort Belvoir, FL; Tampa, FL This position is contingent upon program award, anticipated late March. This role is open to candidates with a wide range of experience levels. The scope of the position and corresponding compensation will be aligned with the candidate’s background and expertise.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or related field with 3 – 6+ years of experience or a Master’s degree with less than or 2+ years of experience. Additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI.
  • Experience in electrical/electronics engineering or equivalent hands‑on background.
  • Working knowledge of analog and digital circuit design principles.
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, KiCad).
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, sensors, power supplies, or embedded hardware.
  • Proficiency using lab equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with PCB layout or design‑for‑manufacturability (DFM/DFT) practices.
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC principles, grounding, and signal integrity.
  • Familiarity with regulatory standards (UL, CE, FCC, IEC).
  • Exposure to embedded systems, firmware, or FPGA‑based designs.
  • Experience with reliability testing, environmental testing, or failure analysis.
  • Background in aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial, or consumer electronics.
  • Ability to work independently on moderately complex engineering tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, analysis, and development of electrical and electronic circuits and components.
  • Support schematic creation, PCB layout reviews, and component selection.
  • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and validation of hardware prototypes and assemblies.
  • Perform measurements, data collection, and analysis using standard lab equipment.
  • Contribute to documentation including design notes, test procedures, and engineering reports.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers, mechanical teams, software teams, and manufacturing personnel.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide input on technical decisions.
  • Support integration activities, system bring‑up, and issue resolution.
  • Ensure work complies with internal quality standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist in supplier communication, part evaluations, and technical assessments.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including specifications, test reports, and design artifacts.
