About The Position

Build and maintain overhead and underground power lines and equipment. Install fiber lines as needed. Maintain equipment in substations and ensure they are operating according to design and safety standards. Interact with customers in such a manner as to build a positive image for BrightRidge.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in CPR and first aid and possess the ability to perform.
  • Knowledge of overhead and underground construction practices, including framing specifications, blueprints, electrical principles, safety regulations, highlines, substations, feeder lines, transformer hook ups, metering, protective equipment, grounding techniques and job-related hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to perform required duties from a pole or aerial bucket truck.
  • Must have some experience with digger/derrick trucks and working experience with bucket truck operations.
  • Must have some experience with air compressors and hydraulic equipment.
  • Must be able to climb poles and perform other duties in various weather conditions day and night.
  • Must have the ability to terminate and splice underground high-voltage cable.
  • Must be able to make quick decisions regarding line work.
  • Must know how to read maps and wiring schematics.
  • Must be capable of working on a personal computer.
  • Job requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching, handling, feeling, squatting, crawling, stooping, kneeling, balancing, seeing, talking and hearing.
  • Must be able to lift up to 160 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces.
  • Must not have a fear of heights.
  • Must have good ambulation for varying terrains.
  • Must have good grip strength and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to produce varying amounts of push/pull force.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of a 4-year Journeyman Lineman Apprenticeship program.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional courses in electronics, apparatus repairs, climbing schools, bucket truck schools, hot stick courses, and hot line work are helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Inform employees of any safety hazards that may be encountered while performing a job.
  • Assist in setting, tamping, and climbing poles in energized and de-energized lines.
  • Operate and work from bucket trucks and other equipment as needed.
  • Install and operate line switches, switch gear, sectionalizers, OCR's and other devices as needed on energized and de-energized conductors.
  • Install conduit, wire, cable, and equipment.
  • Set pads, collars, transformers, and switch gear on underground power systems.
  • Install all types of transformers and services for residential and commercial consumers.
  • Repair and replace poles, conductors, transformers, and hardware on overhead and underground lines.
  • Carry out substation and line-switching orders as directed by the Dispatcher.
  • Refuse lines to restore electricity during power outages as directed.
  • Replace sub-station equipment and repair as needed.
  • Paint substation breakers, power transformers and other equipment, etc.
  • Perform pole top/bucket truck rescue when necessary.
  • Must be available for after-hours work, which would include working a fair share of all necessary overtime.
  • Subject to on-call.
  • Must maintain a valid driver's license & CDL from the state of residence.
  • Ability to maintain reliable, predictable, and reasonable attendance.
  • Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
  • Maintain any vehicle assigned to them.
