Under general supervision, perform journey-level work in the design, installation, construction, modification, repair and maintenance of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems; act as lead worker to other classified staff in the area; and perform related work as required. SCOPE Incumbents inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments; Assemble, install, test, and maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools. Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, and components, using test equipment and hand tools, to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components. Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous. Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. Estimate cost, time and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop; clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Examples of key duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Troubleshoots, repairs and maintains electrical distribution systems including electric motors and electric controls, Assists in the writing of specifications for repairs and new construction. May diagnose as well as replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and also pneumatic components of machines equipment. Maintains appropriate service and repair records. Researches, purchases and inventories equipment parts, chemicals and supplies. Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service. May train and direct the work of other classified staff in the area. Assists and serves as back up to other Maintenance employees.
