We’re looking for a skilled Journeyman Refrigeration Technician to work onsite at our plant in Henrietta, NY. This role is responsible for leading complex ammonia refrigeration system operations, major repairs, compliance activities, and system performance improvements. This role maintains and services plant refrigeration systems, including troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance. The Technician also supports overall mechanical integrity, system documentation, and routine maintenance rounds. In addition, the mechanic performs a variety of industrial maintenance tasks on processing and packaging equipment and provides support across facility operations as needed.

Requirements

  • Generally, a minimum of six (6) years of experience in ammonia refrigeration maintenance, including work with processing and packaging equipment in a manufacturing environment and a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completed a state‑certified mechanical apprenticeship program (e.g., millwright) or equivalent within four (4) years of hire.
  • In‑depth knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and OSHA/EPA/IIAR maintenance requirements.
  • The ability to work independently with strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem‑solving skills.
  • The ability to serve as a first responder in emergency situations, must complete 24‑hour HAZWOPER training and a medical exam for SCBA/full facemask certification, and maintain the annual 8‑hour refresher.
  • Proficiency using computers, cell phones, iPads, and internet‑based tools.
  • The ability to perform repairs, maintenance, and troubleshooting under cGMP conditions.
  • RETA CIRO Certification or Equivalent with the ability to obtain RETA CIRO Certification within the first year of employment if not already certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience maintaining and/or repairing canning/packing equipment, boilers, compressors, hydraulic systems, and vacuum systems (highly preferred).
  • LME apprenticeship or related training (preferred).
  • PSM certification or knowledge/experience with PSM programs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform inspections, repairs, and maintenance on ammonia refrigeration systems.
  • Maintain maintenance records and mechanical integrity on all refrigeration equipment.
  • Provide Processing and Packaging operators and millwrights with technical assistance and training on the refrigeration system as needed.
  • Perform maintenance on packaging, processing, hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum, boiler, wastewater, and other plant support equipment under various environmental conditions following manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Regularly attend and contribute to Process Safety Management (PSM) meetings.
  • Communicate with external auditors and compliance personnel on FDA, EPA, ASME, and OSHA matters as applicable.
  • Communicate with vendors to obtain quotes and service estimates, and coordinate with OFD Purchasing to secure materials and repair parts needed for projects.
  • Ensure all cGMP refrigeration and maintenance activities are performed in accordance with OFD compliance standards and FDA regulations.
  • Partner with the Compliance department and collaborate with management on the six‑system approach supporting continuous development of cGMP facilities and equipment (IQ, OQ, PQ, Root Cause Analysis, Corrective Action Plans, and Change Control Documentation).
  • Perform other duties and assignments that support maintenance and facility operations.
  • Maintain regular and reliable full‑time attendance.
