About The Position

Armitage Architecture, Inc. (Armitage) is seeking a detail-oriented Junior Federal Cost Estimator to support cost estimating services for federal government clients. This role will assist in preparing accurate and comprehensive cost estimates throughout all phases of design and construction for government projects. The Junior Federal Cost Estimator will work closely with senior estimators, project managers, design professionals, and federal stakeholders to collect data, perform quantity takeoffs, and develop cost analyses. The ideal candidate has foundational knowledge of construction systems, federal procurement processes, and cost estimating principles, along with strong analytical and organizational skills. This position may require occasional travel to client sites and project locations.

Requirements

  • 1–5 years of experience in construction estimating, cost engineering, or related field (federal project experience preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field preferred (equivalent experience considered).
  • Working knowledge of CSI MasterFormat divisions.
  • Experience with or exposure to Autodesk Takeoff, ProEst or similar cost databases.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel).
  • Familiarity with estimating software and digital takeoff tools.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and grow under senior mentorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with federal contracting environments (USACE, NAVFAC, GSA, VA, or similar agencies) is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing detailed cost estimates from conceptual design through construction documents for federal projects.
  • Perform quantity takeoffs for all CSI divisions, including Civil, Structural, Architectural, and MEP systems.
  • Support preparation of Independent Government Estimates (IGEs) and other federal cost documentation.
  • Utilize Autodesk Building Connected, ProEst and other federal cost databases to prepare accurate and current pricing analyses.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and other project documentation to prepare labor, material, and equipment cost estimates.
  • Support value engineering reviews and constructability analyses.
  • Assist in preparing cost comparison studies and life-cycle cost analyses.
  • Participate in scope reviews and coordination meetings with architects, engineers, and project teams.
  • Help evaluate subcontractor and supplier proposals for scope completeness and pricing accuracy.
  • Assist with review and analysis of change orders and cost modifications.
  • Support preparation of cost reports, estimate narratives, and presentation materials.
  • Conduct site visits, when required, to verify existing conditions and project scope.
  • Maintain organized documentation of assumptions, pricing sources, and estimate back-up.
