About The Position

The Junior Software Developer supports the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions that advance Ken Garff for Good’s educational and community programs. Working closely with the Director of Programs and cross-functional stakeholders, this role contributes to building and improving digital tools that enhance program delivery, data tracking, and user experience. This is an ideal role for an early-career developer who is eager to grow their technical skills while making a meaningful social impact.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
  • 0–2 years of software development experience (internships or academic projects accepted)
  • Familiarity with one or more programming languages (e.g., JavaScript, Python, Java, or C#)
  • Basic experience with web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git)
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with modern frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue)
  • Exposure to backend development or APIs
  • Familiarity with databases (SQL or NoSQL)
  • Experience working in an agile or collaborative development environment
  • Interest in or passion for education, community impact, or nonprofit work

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, testing, and maintaining web and application-based software solutions
  • Support enhancements and bug fixes for existing platforms and internal tools
  • Collaborate with the Director of Programs to translate program needs into technical requirements
  • Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code
  • Participate in code reviews and team problem-solving sessions
  • Assist with database updates, integrations, and basic reporting tools
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and provide timely resolutions
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices relevant to nonprofit and education-focused applications
  • Coordinate with Vice President of Technology Solutions for Kornerstone on technology strategy, implementation, and management of KGFG platform.
