Under the supervision of the Keys of Hope Manager, the Peer Recovery Specialist will work alongside the Keys of Hope counselor(s) to provide comprehensive wrap-around services to individuals in recovery for our Keys of Hope Transitional Housing Program. This role requires CPRS training and a personal connection to those served. Responsibilities include assisting individuals in obtaining self-sufficiency, providing resource linkage for housing, transportation, education, and job placement/training. Flexibility and willingness to work evenings are necessary to enhance participant support. The Peer Recovery Specialist will utilize a client-centered, trauma-informed, and holistic approach, offering education and real-life experience for a relational and impactful connection with clients in recovery. They will serve as a community and professional resource to meet the needs of clients. The ideal candidate will have experience working with underserved populations and extensive knowledge of the systems and barriers related to housing, finances, career, education, childcare, healthcare, and other individualized needs.

Requirements

  • Commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and supportive workplace where everyone can thrive.
  • Strong attention to detail, excellent judgment, and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Certification as a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist and mandatory lived experience. CPRS training will be provided for interested applicants without certification.
  • Experience living in the Keys of Hope program, or similar program, to enhance client dynamic and success rates. (If former KOH resident, must have graduated successfully and be out of the program for a minimum of 6 months)
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Sensitivity to domestic and sexual violence and individuals with significant barriers.
  • Flexibility in schedule.

Responsibilities

  • Provide peer-based recovery support by sharing lived experience appropriately to inspire hope and model recovery-oriented behaviors.
  • Offer one-on-one peer mentoring to residents to support personal goals, recovery maintenance, and emotional wellness.
  • Assist residents in developing individual recovery or wellness plans in collaboration with program staff.
  • Encourage and support participation in recovery meetings, support groups, and wellness activities.
  • Provide residential support to ensure client safety and provide clients with access to support after normal business hours.
  • Facilitate peer support groups, recovery circles, or check-ins within the residence.
  • Help build a positive residential community culture that promotes accountability, mutual support, and healthy boundaries.
  • Support residents in developing life skills such as conflict resolution, communication, time management, and self-advocacy.
  • Assist residents in connecting to community resources, including recovery supports, healthcare, employment services, childcare, and transportation.
  • Help residents navigate systems of care, including behavioral health, housing, and social services.
  • Manage and organize incoming donations, including sorting, storing, and maintaining an orderly system for donated items.
  • Oversee the program's pantry and boutique, ensuring spaces remain organized, accessible, and appropriately stocked for participant needs.
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate updates, needs, or concerns related to donations, pantry, or boutique supplies to the Program Manager.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation of peer support interactions in accordance with program and funding requirements.
  • Assist Keys of Hope Manager with tracking participation in recovery programming and workshops.
  • Collaborate closely with Keys of Hope Manager and Director of Social Services through open communication, weekly supervision, and monthly resident meetings.
  • Provide peer support during moments of crisis or emotional distress, while following program protocols and notifying appropriate staff.
  • Assist with de-escalation and supportive listening when residents are experiencing challenges.
  • Promote YWCA Knoxville and the Tennessee Valley’s mission in the community while interacting with YWCA personnel, volunteers, and staff.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with community partners.
