POSITION SUMMARY. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Program Coordinator, the Kids Zone Attendant will be responsible for caring for children, ensuring safety, constant surveillance at all times. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Actively supervises and participates in activities with all children. Greets parents; be informed of each child’s needs. Always use gentle firmness and kind voice when dealing with problem situations. Provide direction of the expectations in the area to the children and their parents. Respects confidentiality when discussing issues concerning children. Upholds all YMCA policies, procedures, standards and code of conduct. Treats all children and parents with dignity and respect Maintain a neat, clean and organized Kids Zone area. Communicates all suggestions, hazards, incidents and feedback to the Director. Attend any pertinent YMCA trainings. Maintain updated files and documents related to the Kids Zone area, e.g. attendance, incident reports, payment. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements

  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date.
  • MS-121 Immunization form on file.
  • New employee orientation and leader certification completed in the first 6 months.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Understands the YMCA is a public accommodation committed to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
