HKNC is dedicated to working with each person to achieve their desired goals towards independence, employment, and quality of life, based on their talents, preferences and aspirations.  We currently have an exciting career opportunity available to join the HKNC team as a Kitchen Helper in our residence facility in Sands Point, NY.  The Kitchen Helper is responsible for assisting the Food Services Manager, Second Cook, and Relief Cooks with duties assigned within the kitchen facility at the Helen Keller National Center. Responsibilities also include washing dishes, utensils trays after each meal service and maintaining the cleanliness of dining room and kitchen. This is a Wednesday-Sunday shift, 10am-6pm.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a commercial or institutional kitchen preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and assist the Food Services Manager, Second Cook and Relief Cook in service of meal
  • Cleans dishes, glassware, utensils, trays, pots and pans used in preparation of all meals.
  • Receives delivery of supplies (paper goods, food items, etc.) and stores items in prescribed manner in appropriate areas as instructed by Food Services Manager and/or Second Cook.
  • Restocks paper goods as needed.
  • Washes tables and chairs, repositions tables and chairs after each meal. Cleans and mops dining room and kitchen on weekends.
  • Maintains dishwasher in sanitary condition restocks soaps and rinses as needed. Advises Food Services Manager and/or Second Cook if cleaning supplies are needed and/or of any equipment
  • malfunctions.
  • Sets up student work experience as instructed by Food Services Manager and/or Second Cook or Relief Cooks.
  • Washes floor, ceilings, walk in refrigerators/freezers, ovens within the Kitchen facility and ensures the cleanliness according to the cleaning schedule. Advise Food Services Manager if items need additional cleaning.
  • Responsible for other duties as may be assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor, Second Cook, Relief Cooks and /or HKNC Administration.
