About The Position

“Every person deserves compassion, dignity, and the safety of a place to call home.” Homelessness is the largest social and public health crisis in California. Illumination Health + Home is a growing non-profit organization dedicated towards disrupting the cycle of homelessness by providing targeted, interdisciplinary services in our recuperative care centers, emergency shelters, housing services and children’s and family programs. IF currently has 13+ facilities with 22+ micro-communities scattered across Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. Job Description: The Kitchen Steward is responsible for maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and food storage areas. The pay range for this position is $20-21 per hour , depending on experience. The schedule for this position is Saturday - Tuesday, 3:00pm to 8:00pm .

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
Some managerial/leadership experience
Basic computer skills, including the ability to send and receive emails and summarize data in spreadsheets.
Strong communication and listening skills.
Dependable with good time management and attention to detail.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow privacy rules.

Nice To Haves

Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

Assist with serving meals during meal and snack times.
Communicate client needs to Lead Cook and/or Culinary Manager.
Work with volunteers and help foster a welcoming work environment.
Assist with maintaining compliance with all local, state, and federal health and safety regulations.
Adhere to proper handling, storage, and rotation (FIFO) of food items to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
Maintain a clean and sanitary work area.
Work in alignment with the company’s Guiding Principles Cleaning dishes, washing cooking utensils and cookware, taking out the trash, and sanitizing the kitchen.
Complete daily, weekly, monthly cleaning logs.
Labeling and stocking ingredients on easily accessible shelves.
Handle basic cooking duties such as parboiling, preparing salads, etc.
Attend required training and meetings as required.
