About The Position

The Home Equity Loan Originator drives growth of home equity loans and HELOCs by sourcing, consulting, and guiding members/customers through the end‑to‑end lending process. The role builds referral networks, partners with branch and digital channels, structures credit‑appropriate solutions, gathers complete applications/disclosures, and coordinates with underwriting, appraisal, title, and closing to deliver a timely, compliant, and member‑centric experience.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in business, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • In-depth understanding of home equity loan products and real estate lending practices.
  • Familiarity with credit union policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal and state lending regulations, including fair lending and disclosure requirements.
  • 3–5 years of experience in home equity loan/HELOC origination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Experience with loan origination systems and document preparation software.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple loans simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, including basic math proficiency.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a credit union or financial institution preferred.
  • Background in customer service or member support roles is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Generate applications via branch partnerships, outbound calling, digital leads, community outreach, and COIs (realtors, builders, financial advisors).
  • Maintain a disciplined pipeline; prioritize files to meet cycle‑time and funding goals.
  • Conduct needs assessments; explain home equity loans vs. HELOCs (rates, terms, draw periods, repayment features, fees).
  • Provide accurate payment estimates; set clear expectations on timelines and documentation.
  • Take and submit complete applications; collect income/asset/occupancy documents; order credit; verify title and lien position.
  • Ensure accurate data entry in LOS (e.g., Encompass/Empower) and CRM; issue required disclosures within TRID timelines.
  • Structure loans consistent with policy (LTV/CLTV, DTI, collateral, pricing).
  • Coordinate appraisal/AVM, title, flood, insurance; clear conditions; schedule closing and review final terms.
  • Adhere to SAFE Act/NMLS, ECOA/Reg B, TILA/Reg Z, RESPA/TRID, HMDA, FCRA, Fair Lending, BSA/AML/KYC.
  • Protect NPPI and follow all information security protocols.
  • Collaborate with underwriting, processing, closing, servicing, and branches to remove bottlenecks and improve member experience.
  • Provide feedback to product/pricing teams on market trends and competitive positioning.
  • Deliver proactive status updates; resolve escalations; drive high satisfaction (NPS/CSAT).
  • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships (e.g., checking, credit cards, digital banking adoption).
