A highly collaborative laboratory-based research group in the Translational Science & Therapeutics Division is recruiting an outstanding, part-time Lab Aide to work 5-10 hours a week as part of a team investigating new treatments for patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) primarily focused on improving existing, and developing novel, antibody-based immunotherapies, and rendering them safer for clinical application. Current projects include preclinical drug development/testing (in part with academic and industry partners), studies on mechanisms of action and resistance of antibody-based therapeutics and identification of strategies to overcome these limitations, and development of approaches to protect normal tissues from the toxicities of AML-targeted therapies (e.g. via use of genome editing). The incumbent works under the close supervision of the Lab Manager or other lab personnel.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent; OR, High school senior with lab-based experience or demonstrated interest in the sciences

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years previous lab-based experience and demonstrated interest in the sciences, including coursework in biological sciences, immunology, bioengineering or similar field of study.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine work in a clinical or research laboratory.
  • DNA cloning, mini and maxi preps, DNA sequencing.
  • Maintenance of human cell lines upon training and demonstration of sterile technique.
  • May assist with experiments and set-up, depending on demonstrated skill level.
  • Prepare media and reagents, such as stock solutions.
  • Rinse and prepare glassware for cleaning, deliver clean glassware to storage areas.
  • Maintain clean and orderly laboratory area.
  • May check and replenish supplies.
  • Perform simple, routine and repetitive laboratory tests and procedures as directed.
  • Perform clerical duties as required, e.g. freezer/reagent inventory upkeep.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
