About The Position

Laboratory Assistant at UCSF Neuroscience laboratory in the Department of Ophthalmology and the Department of Neurology. The focus of our research is to understand retinal and central processing deficits in eye disease and neurological disorders. The Lab Assistant 1 will work closely with all laboratory members in various aspects of research, including assistance with ordering of supplies and maintaining laboratory inventory, and general oversight to ensure the smooth running of laboratory operations and organization. This individual maintains records and files pertaining to equipment, supplies, and lab compliance with regulatory agencies. This individual under supervision will assist with the preparation of data collection and assist with research as directed by Specialist and postdoctoral fellows. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $19.43 - $22.49 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • Graduation from, a high school or a GED Diploma and one year of laboratory experience or two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position
  • Ability to work independently and/ or as part of a diverse team to determine priorities
  • Ability to recognize irregularities and invalid results
  • Ability to modify existing procedures and standardize new procedures
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills
  • Detail-oriented
  • Knowledge of experimental processes and protocols
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient computer skills ; Operate computer software including our database (with training) and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Knowledge of animal behavior and care
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory procedures
  • Familiarity with UCSF IACUC protocols and procedures

  • Bachelor’s degree in science-related field
