With 227 beds, the community hospital specializes in emergency care, orthopedics, obstetrics and gynecology, wound care, surgery, cardiology, gastroenterology, critical care, and interventional radiology. Knapp serves as the only acute care hospital in the Mid-Valley area, as well as Weslaco's only Level III Trauma Center, Advanced Primary Stroke Center, and Level II Newborn Nursery. Knapp has been providing quality and compassionate healthcare to Mid-Valley residents for 60 years. More than 300 physicians serve on the hospital's medical staff. Knapp also serves as one of the largest employers in the Mid-Valley, employing more than 450 people.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Minimum 1-year clinical laboratory experience performing similar job functions preferred.
  • State Certified as CPT I or CPT II if the laboratory is located in a state where required.
  • Current BCLS (AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the guidelines set by CLIA and the CA Business and Professions Codes.
  • Perform computer entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
  • Demonstrate good telephone etiquette and greet patients and other visitors in a polite and friendly manner.
  • Possess good communication skills.
  • Demonstrate adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory.
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of phlebotomy and the equipment used in collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients.
  • Process pathology, microbiology, immunology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, chemistry, and blood bank specimens.
  • Process specimens for reference laboratory.
  • Stock and order routine supplies.
  • Keep storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas clean.
  • Process or place specimens on laboratory instruments in accordance with established policy and procedures.
  • With proper documented training, perform instrument preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, assist in quality control procedures, perform primary culture inoculations, stain slide preparations, and subculture from liquid media.
  • Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
  • Assist in Pathology with training and evaluation.
