About The Position

Clarke is seeking an independent, self-motivated, detail-orientated, safety focused and environmentally conscious individual to join us for a rewarding biology assistant position at our St. Charles, IL location. Our biology assistants are responsible for assisting our Research, Development and Engineering team with field and laboratory research projects, insectary maintenance with the possibility for remote field work. This includes the formulation and testing of active ingredients and products on mosquitoes, which are important vectors of disease. WORK SCHEDULE AND PAY This opportunity is a temporary position that could last up to 10 months (or about 1,500 total hours of work) 40 hours per week which includes weekend and holiday work. (Work schedule could be Mon - Sat with a day off during the week). Field work may require out of state travel and shifting work schedules. Travel-related expenses will be covered. This position pays an hourly rate of $18.

Requirements

  • Must be comfortable performing assigned duties in the field where environmental conditions are affected by weather
  • Must be able to work in hot and humid conditions inside insectaries for long periods
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, with some bending and lifting involved
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Have a valid Driver's License with an excellent driving record
  • Communicate effectively in English in both written and verbal forms

Nice To Haves

  • Background in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Entomology, Environmental Science/Public Health or related field preferred.
  • Microbiology experience helpful
  • Recent graduate from an accredited University or College preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct assigned field and laboratory experiments, which include measuring the efficacy of products on various mosquito species (adult and larvae), GLP studies (training will be provided), and assist with the collection of data
  • Support the daily maintenance of the mosquito insectary via care of eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults, including lifting and carrying larval trays, blood feeding, cage cleaning, and mosquito aspiration
  • Perform daily inspections of equipment to verify working condition and communicate any issues to supervisor
  • Document and communicate daily work
  • Ensure safe work practices and procedures are followed
  • Some travel may be required to conduct field research
