The Labor Relations Specialist assists in the administration of multiple collective bargaining agreements, supports labor relations strategy and helps ensure consistent contract interpretation across the organization in alignment with UC Health’s mission, values, and goals. This role supports the labor relations function by strengthening operational infrastructure, providing analytical insight and assisting operational leaders in administering collective bargaining agreements between the organization and the Ohio Nurses Association (ONA), American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME), International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), and the Ohio Patrolmen's Benevolent Association (OPBA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree - Human Resources or Related Field.
  • 1 - 2 Years equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • 3 - 5 Years equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate intake, triage, and assignment of labor inquiries and ensure accurate documentation and timely follow up.
  • Maintain and manage labor relations operational systems including issue trackers, dashboards, and repositories used to monitor labor activities, documentation, metrics, and resources.
  • Assist with development and refinement of labor relations operational processes, tools, and documentation standards to improve consistency and efficiency across the function.
  • Support labor-related activities through research, documentation preparation, research, and monitoring of action items and follow-up needs.
  • Utilize HR systems and reporting tools to generate reports, track labor relations activity, and support analysis of labor trends and patterns.
  • Assist in managing grievance processes by maintaining accurate records, tracking grievance activity, and ensuring compliance with contractual grievance procedures and timelines.
  • Conduct in depth research related to contract disputes, including review of organizational records, historical documentation, relevant arbitration decisions or case law, and industry practices to support informed resolutions.
  • Maintain and periodically audit grievance and dispute documentation ensuring records are complete, organized, and accessible for future reference.
  • Participate in grievance meetings or labor-management discussions as a supporting representative of the Labor Relations function
  • Assist in the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements between the organization and multiple unions representing approximately 2,200 union-represented employees.
  • Partner with HR Business Partners to provide guidance and support to managers in addressing workplace disputes, disciplinary actions, and labor-related concerns.
  • Build and maintain professional working relationships with union representatives while supporting organizational objectives and labor relations strategy.
  • Assist with identifying contract provisions that generate recurring questions, disputes or operational challenges and collaborate with Labor Relations leadership to develop clarifying guidance and inform future contract strategy.
  • Assist with research and preparation related to negotiations by reviewing contract language comparisons, industry practices, and historical bargaining materials.
  • Facilitate labor-management meetings, fostering constructive dialogue between leadership and unions
  • Respond to general questions and requests from leaders and HR Partners, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of practical tools and resources that support leaders in administering collective bargaining agreements and navigating union environments.
  • Support the design and delivery of training sessions, workshops, or discussion forums focused on working in union environments, contract administration and effective labor-management interactions.
  • Participate in labor relations leader engagement initiatives designed to support frontline leaders in addressing contract related questions and operational challenges
  • Maintain labor relations knowledge resources and guidance materials to promote consistent contract administration across the organization.
