Summary of Position The position of Laboratory Support Genetic Counselor II provides genetic consultation to providers requesting genetic testing and acts as a consultant to health care providers regarding highly specialized genetic information pertinent to the management of their patients. The Laboratory Genetic Counselor II will perform variant curation and assist in the reporting of a variety of genetic tests. This position will be responsible for providing case management for complex genetic cases including coordination of testing and ongoing recommendations.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience as a laboratory genetic counselor is required.
  • Master’s degree in Genetic Counseling from an accredited American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC) training program.
  • Board certification as a Genetic Counselor by the ABGC.
  • Multi-state genetic counselor licensure preferred, with ability to obtain and maintain licensure in any required state.
  • Broad knowledge of genetics (cancer, cardiac, neuro, pediatric, carrier screening, technology, & etc.).
  • Excellent communication and organization skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, follow instructions, and comply with company policies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, self-motivation, adaptability, and a positive and friendly attitude.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in variant classification and/or reporting is preferred.
  • Multi-state genetic counselor licensure preferred, with ability to obtain and maintain licensure in any required state.

Responsibilities

  • Liaison between Fulgent Genetics and other healthcare practitioners such as clinical genetic counselors, physicians, and clients pertaining to available testing options, test standards and limitations, laboratory reporting policies, etc.
  • Provide clinical expertise to curation scientists and directors with accessioning inquiries, test order modifications, and result interpretation.
  • Contribute to test improvement and new test development.
  • Assist with the marketing team in patient and physician literature.
  • Assist with variant interpretation and reporting.
  • Support laboratory quality assurance standards.
  • May provide telehealth counseling services.
  • Mentor Lab Genetic Counselor I and provide new hire training on SOPs.
