About The Position

The Campus Landscape Technician is responsible for the sanitation of the grounds by maintaining refuse movement to the appropriate disposal location, which includes dumpsters and landfills throughout the assigned work shift. Salary Grade : LST-1 Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department.

Requirements

  • High School education or equivalent
  • 1 year of experience in sanitation work
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Substitution allowed for Education: When a candidate has the required experience, but lacks the required education, they may normally apply additional appropriate experience toward the education requirement, at a rate of (1) year relevant experience per year of required education.
  • Knowledge of safe working practices
  • Ability to use basic hand tools and light equipment.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting and perform physical labor.
  • Ability to wear protective work equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 3-5 years of work experience in sanitation or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Collect debris and refuse from the different assigned locations across campus.
  • Performs manual labor of a semi-skilled level, which may include the use of standard or specialized hand tools and power-operated equipment.
  • Relocation of material from one place to another.
  • May pick up trash in surrounding areas of campus.
  • Replace trash cans around campus.
  • May pick up leaves and yard refuse.
  • Transport trash to dumps, landfill, or recycling center.
  • Lift cans by hand to empty into truck or perform mechanism to lift cans.
  • Drive garbage or recycling truck vehicle to perform refuse pickup.
  • Inspect refuel vehicles before and after use.
  • May operate automated or semi-automated hoisting devices.
  • Tell dispatchers about delays or accidents.
  • Inspect dump trucks before and after route.
  • Requires skilled driving due to pick up locations being in tight confined areas, as well as in the presence of other vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Operates power equipment and tools essential to completing daily tasks. (A degree of skill and technique is required.)
  • Follows standard safety precautions in the operation of equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
