About The Position

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented Landscape & Urban Design Intern for employment in the New York City Landscape Architecture + Urban Design Studio. The studio is based in AECOM’s Manhattan office location. This position is expected to begin in May/June, 2026. AECOM is proud to provide our employees with exciting, challenging projects. The Landscape Architecture and Urban Design portfolio in the New York City studio includes a broad range of urban-based, multidisciplinary public realm projects, such as plazas, streetscapes, parks, waterfronts, infrastructure, urban design plans, master-planning, green infrastructure, and ecological restoration. In collaboration with design studio leadership, the candidate will work closely with project design teams and project landscape architects, managers and designers to design and assist in the execution of projects within the New York City metropolitan area, nationally and internationally. Projects in the studio are design-driven and involve close collaboration with engineers, planners, cost estimators, and other technical consultants. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Work on coastal resiliency and climate adaptation infrastructure, multi-scale public landscape, and urban design projects. Produce community communication tools such as presentation graphics and physical models of design ideas. Assist in the preparation of communication tools at the direction of project design leads via written and verbal instructions. Develop cohesive design narratives for the communication of project components. Complete technical and administrative activities with employees in the Landscape Architecture and Urban Design Studio as well as with other disciplines and other departments. Perform research for onsite specific materials and conditions. Perform data collecting for the purposes of the development of design ideas within a creative and collaborative studio design environment. Prepare design presentation graphics, renderings, boards for presentation, and physical models. Utilize graphic design software for consolidation of data and presentations.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, or related field and must have completed at least 1 or more years of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated production and digital rendering experience with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Rhino.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and self-edit work.
  • Proficiency and passion for creating compelling open space design, with an ability to develop the work through the technical design phase.
  • Excellent verbal, written and graphic communication skills.
  • Possesses the ability to collaborate as part of a diverse studio team.
  • Experience in Grasshopper, Revit, ArcGIS, Microsoft Office Suite, and other computer applications.
  • Strong knowledge/interest in plant materials, site design, grading, and multi-disciplinary collaboration.
  • Possesses the skills to generate exceptional two dimensional and three-dimensional design graphics.
